Wow, in almost all aspects the Filipinos excel. Will it be fallacious if I say all?
Look at how independent movies grab awards at prestigious award-giving bodies abroad? Take Kubrador for example. It gave the country so much honor that, I believe, the national market took notice of it and eventually give respect to our modern day filmmakers.
Surprisingly, quality movies such as the indie movies do not penetrate a wider market. They do not earn much as to what they deserve. For obvious reasons, I would say.
Was it their choice? I notice some movie makers on the movie route prefer to be anonymous. It seems that they believe that when the movie became mainstream, it will loose its soul.
The battle between mainstream and independent movies is as ridiculous as the stupid debate between culture and biology.
Why do some independent digital makers do not like the mainstream world? Let me answer it with another question, why would they? If there are movie makers who think as such, I would say it equals stupidity. All movies' goal is to convey ideas to people. Both belong onto the same field, why not support each other?
Without the mainstream arena, would the masses recognize other works?
But the situation gradually changes as independent movies feature mainstream acts. That is a pro!
Never let the movie industry die on us audiences.
Credits should greatly be given to the indie cinema, though. Thank you for giving real-life sense to the ailing movie industry.
