Leaves of life flown from the ridges of the sky bound to celebrate the wonders that fly. Wind that blows to avert the dirt that blocks the innocent eyes; feelings so long kept that soon will burst ravishing without cries. As the tests of hell bow down to surrender to the powers of the heavens supreme, one must soar and the other must die. Get up to be remembered not a face that fades but a name that reigns.
All are intellectuals but not all are intelligent. One must know how to use intellectuality with the greatest deal to be considered as intelligent. That is a way of endurance in the fast race of life in a track called University of the Philippines. Never a soul was in any doubt that everybody entering this track is as if in a battlefield bleeding although unwounded. Tough challenges that mold these intellectuals in sync of the future that waits capable of giving bleeds with painful wounds; but they must be strong.
Strength must get a grip with the spirit to stay long. No exam, no cry; no test, no harvest. That is a credo one must contemplate if sincere to live to tell the tale. The tasks the UP students play are not what Darna, Captain Barbell, or the Sangres of Encantadia portray. Being an Iskolar ng Bayan may not be as risky as what the heroes do but barbed enough to kill. As they say, “UP can make or break you.” It is up to the intellectual how he wanted to live up the tag attached to him. It is on no account that being an Isko becomes easy; in fact, holding a country’s future never was easy. It is like choosing between your loved ones who must die, and who would not.
Nevertheless, we are now an Isko. No surrenders, no backing up. It is in our palms where the futures hope lays. We are here for one ultimate rationale, and that is to serve the people that need us. We are already known as the cream of the crop, but are that how it ends? Are we forever just the cream of the crop? Will you just use the name Isko? Or will you live for the name Isko?
We are the fighters who fight for what is essentially true. We are judged for we are truly fundamentals. We know what is right, but we are not blinded by what we fight. Gear up and shout productively as we celebrate Oble’s hundred years of nakedness. We are known for what we do; let us be known for utmost more.
We did not travel from all the ends of the Philippines only to waste the nation’s wealth. We landed in this university mindset that we are strong enough to carry the weight of tomorrow. Oble was made to represent the real truth that must open the closed eyes of Juan to the reality that strikes high. His legacy is truly heroic because not everyone wants to make the entire nation be at good conditions before him. Magical is that Oble is supposed to be us.
Continuing sheer legacy is not easy; if truth be told, seldom it was done. But we will succeed. Forever we will strive to protect the inheritance that will make the nation thrive.
Small voices altogether will shout making beautifully deafening sounds.
Serve the people!
