In Bed and Awake...

Purposively anticipating every moment that will unfold, I stay wide awake to catch the first glimpse of glory. Leaves fall killing all existing memories, but that does not matter much for I live to make new ones with you.

Forever chasing kismet ...

Coffey at Edgecomb

Although religion taught humanity about all aspects of life, many mysteries are still left unanswered. The battle between religion and superstition has been a constant debate and has always caused confusion to many. Another argument is the science versus religion. The scientific method and practices never really matched that of the religious principles and beliefs; hence, causing the two disciplines to clash. There are circumstances, however, when only one of the disciplines is proven to be more accurate. But, since this world is a religious planet, we are taught to believe that everything happens because of one powerful creature. Scientifically, the findings are different. Until now, the premise of science and religion has never closed down.

Thematically, the film touched several social issues that are seldom talked about; in some cases, considered as taboos.

Miracles do happen. If it is directly from God, it is believed. If from a mortal, it is falsified. Science would not even believe in it unless it underwent scientific processes. On the story, miracle is one of the main topics touched. There are lots of movies depicting this type of plot; the difference is that The Green Mile showed it in a way that is believable and interesting because it is set in an unlikely place for miracles to happen, a death row.

Moreover, the movie proves that serious musical scores and deep scripts are not the only factors that make a film moving, but great acting does combined with the proper cinematography that sets the mood and gives emotion to the film. Another factor is that the movie lived up to its main purpose, which is to open eyes, at the same time, to entertain. After a tiring day, a movie break is likeable. But, if a movie is too intellectual, then relaxing would not be probable. Rest time should make the brain relieved from stress, not make it stressed more. The movie was shown lightly; hence, the emotions were delivered effectively without the hindrance of thinking about what is happening.

Little concepts on the movie showed subtexts, a plus point because it makes one realize that in a world where rejection and judgment is abundant, concepts such as earthly vengeance and power tripping is very well implemented. Hopefully, the realization will turn into solution.
One of the catchiest scenes in the movie is the funny appearances of Mr. Jingles. He was being followed at first to be killed. In this world, cruelty to smaller creatures is fast becoming a norm. One must prove something big to be respected. If not, forever will that someone or something be rejected. The mere explanation to that is people look at the materiality and the achieved status of others rather than looking at the spirituality and understanding the ascribed status.

The bible says that God has given us freewill; science proves that man is a mobile and an intellectual individual. Thus, man has a choice. No matter what he chooses to believe in, there are still other beliefs that might contradict him. Since science and religion are really not yet in harmony, the responsibility man must carry is the respect he must give to others.
All must contemplate on this, “I am sorry for what I am.” On that simple statement, injustice is obvious and judgment does not penetrate under the skin.
